Finding makeup that can hold up to the rigors of travel is hard in its own right.  But that’s especially true for foundation, as it tends toward melting, leaking, separating, and other ickiness.  Add to that the desire for something completely clean and natural, that makes my skin *better*???  Now we’re talking a unicorn.

But then I discovered Araza’s natural coconut cream foundation.  I’ve been using this every single day for over a year, so wanted to give you a detailed review of this non-toxic foundation so you can figure out if it’s the right one for you!

Review: Why Araza Beauty's Cream Foundation is Best For Travel | It's hard to find a clean, non-toxic foundation that can hold up to the rigors of travel...here's why Araza's natural coconut cream foundation is the best! I cover how it works for me, how it packs, all the great ingredients & skin benefits, & more (with pics of it in action!).

I have a separate post that’s more of an overview on Araza’s products and how they do while traveling…I love them so much that I reached out to them about being a brand ambassador, and so if you decide you want to try them out, you can use this link (or any of the ones in this post) along with the code ONEGIRL at checkout to get 15% off your first order.

But I wanted to spend some time focusing specifically on their natural cream foundation and why I think it’s the best clean, non-toxic foundation for travel.

Just a quick note—this post contains affiliate links & I may make a small commission from any purchases that come through clicks on them (which I greatly appreciate, and at no extra cost to you).  All opinions stated here are, as always, COMPLETELY my own, I used Araza before I was an ambassador!

Why I think this is the best natural, clean foundation out there

Almost a year ago, out of nowhere, I started having rosacea on my cheeks, and then tiny breakouts everywhere.  I’d had truly perfect (if sometimes oily) skin my whole life, and it kept getting worse, and started to make me really self-conscious (and made me hate photos of myself when traveling).

I hadn’t worn foundation since my early 20s, but decided it was time to try again.  I’ve been on my own huge natural health and detoxification journey, so knew I didn’t want to go with drugstore makeup, which is full of all sorts of toxic ingredients like parabens, phthalates, and other cancer-causing and hormone-screwing-up stuff.

The problem is, “clean” and “natural” are so overused (and they’re not standardized/regulated), so can be hard to sift through the marketing noise and bogus claims.  I finally read somebody say their personal definition was “I want my makeup to be chemical and toxin-free, without endocrine-disrupting chemicals and preservatives, and organic whenever possible”.  That works for me.

I tested out a couple other natural makeup brands, and while they were okay, I didn’t really fall in love with how they worked for me (especially the foundation).  But when I tried Araza’s foundation, I was immediately obsessed.

One important thing to note is that this is not a maximum coverage type of foundation.  If you’re wanting to trowel on a thick layer and completely spackle over your skin, this probably isn’t the right thing for you (nor, I’d assume, would any clean, non-toxic brand be what you’re looking for).

Araza’s coconut cream foundation provides light-to-medium coverage, for a super natural look that’s still healthy for my skin but gives me a beautiful light, dewy glow.  It’s kind of like the airbrushing effect on social media, making my skin look a bit smoother, more polished, but still MY skin.  It’s definitely more coverage than a tinted moisturizer.  (Note, they do have a mineral powder foundation too, which I haven’t tried.)

Functional benefits of Araza’s coconut cream foundation

Araza crafts their products ONLY with healthy fats, organic plant-based ingredients, and minerals which work together to feed and nourish your skin.  The coconut cream foundation is one of the cleanest on the market, with 95% certified organic ingredients, no synthetics or fillers.

I’ve found that it’s weightless, looks amazing, and lasts all day, but it also sneakily provides a ton of powerful protective abilities, including…

  • Natural SPF of 25 (non-nano zinc oxide) and blue light blocking capabilities
  • Ingredients like organic MCT oil to provide deep moisture without clogging pores, a powerful coconut post-biotic to balance your skin’s microbiome, and anti-oxidant rich araza fruit extract
  • High polyphenol content promotes new skin cell regeneration
  • It provides a natural (breathable) protective barrier on the skin, helping to lock in moisture
  • If you have really sensitive skin or it acts up (acne, aging, rosacea, breakouts), it’s super gentle and can even help your skin heal somewhat over time (at least for me…note, it’s not a miracle worker)

ONE MAJOR BONUS:  You can buy tiny sample sizes to test out various shades, making sure you get exactly the right one for you before buying the full-size (side note, these are also great for short trips!).  I’ve found that I’m a 340 in summer and a 320 in winter.

How does Araza Beauty foundation hold up to travel?

Here’s what’s truly amazing about it—it gets BETTER the longer I wear it.  Seriously.  Whether in heat and humidity (like Charleston or the Azores in summer) or dry cold (like Prague’s Christmas markets), somehow the longer it stays on my skin, the more even and smooth my skin feels (vs. oily and gross, or patchy and dry).

And that’s especially true for long flights…the first pic below is me sitting in a burger restaurant in southern Portugal after 30+ hours of travel with my makeup still on me, and honestly??  My skin looks pretty great.

Plus, it travels super well, and does NOT get all melty and gross in my bag while traveling.  Zero leakage.  I’ve been worried that some TSA agent on a power trip will confiscate it from my carry-on (as happened with my almond butter), but I’ve traveled with it for a year now with no issues.

Tips for applying Araza’s coconut cream foundation

I’ve tried a few different ways of applying the foundation, and any work, but personally I’ve found that a foundation brush works best for me.  I use Araza’s currently, but any foundation brush (like this one from Amazon) should work.

Outside of that, you can use a slightly damp makeup sponge to blend, or apply a small amount using your fingertips and softly buff into your skin until it melts and looks seamless and natural.

It’s a lighter coverage that gives me a dewey finish, like a second skin…featherweight!  If “glowy” isn’t what I’m wanting that day or I know I have a looooong day, I use a tiny bit of their translucent powder to “set” it.

It’s not hard to tell that I’m in love with this natural foundation, and hopefully this shows why!  Obviously it may not be right for everyone’s needs, but if you’re trying to find the best clean, non-toxic foundation for you skin I’d definitely grab some of their samples and give it a try!  Again, you can use any of the links in this post and code ONEGIRL at checkout to get 15% off your first order

Thank you! It’s one of my all-time favorite travel dresses. I got it from Stitchfix several years ago, so not sure if they have similar styles. The brand is 41 Hawthorn, a brand they still carry, and maybe you could find one on eBay or ThreadUp?
